A Musician's Year-Long Thanksgiving
When New Year's Day has come and gone,
And other's goals have faded,
My musician's heart keeps beating on,
Knowing dreams just need persuading,
That baby steps and daily work
Will bring my goals closer and nearer,
Where as others simply can't face the work,
I deal with the musician in the mirror.
When Valentine's Day has come and gone,
And others think romance has finished for the year,
My musician's heart keeps beating on,
Knowing romance is always as near,
As a tender song, a passionate piece, even a grand symphony,
And whether I am listening or playing it's clear,
That romance is always all around me.
When the newness of Spring has come and has gone,
And others think the daily grind is a chore,
My musician's heart keeps beating on,
Knowing every day contains oh so much more,
Than just a routine, responsibilities, and duty,
All that stuff, all that worry, all that weight,
Each moment is precious and contains so much beauty,
Each day has so much to celebrate.
When the freedom of summer has come and has gone,
And others wish its pleasures would never end,
My musician's heart keeps beating on,
Knowing anytime I want I can send
Myself on an adventure, a journey, a quest,
To find what my heart is looking for,
As I practice and listen, I do my very best,
To discover all these musical worlds here for me to explore,
But I'll never be finished, the music will never be done,
And no performance will ever be like the one before.
When the turkey has been eaten, Thanksgiving come and gone,
When the presents have been opened, and Christmas now is done,
And others think the months of gratitude are finished...
My musician's heart keeps beating on,
I stay so thankful, my appreciation undiminished.
Music reminds me each and every day,
That even when moments are full of pain,
And it feels like happiness is being kept at bay,
The struggle is so worth all the lessons we gain,
And joy is always just a moment away!
Happy Practicing and Happy Thanksgiving!
